What makes an experience traumatic?
Traumatic experiences often involve a threat to life or safety, but any situation that leaves you feeling overwhelmed and alone can be traumatic, even if it doesn’t involve physical harm. It’s not the objective facts that determine whether an event is traumatic, but your subjective emotional experience of the event. The more frightened and helpless you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatized.
An event will most likely lead to emotional or psychological trauma if:
• It happened unexpectedly.
• You were unprepared for it.
• You felt powerless to prevent it.
• It happened repeatedly.
• Someone was intentionally cruel.
• It happened in childhood.

What is Wholistic Health?
The philosophy of wholistic health speaks to the belief that all we do affects every part of us; physical, mental & spiritual. For example, having anxious thoughts secretes stress hormones in the body which affects the physical body. Healing holistically speaks to looking at what we’re doing on each of those levels and what changes we can make whether in nutrition, thought processes, psychological healing, or spiritually to restore optimal health, not just the absence of dis-ease. Therefore, adding pharmaceuticals or even natural medicines such as herbs, as band-aids, while very helpful and absolutely essential at times, does not restore optimal health. One must address underlying causes of imbalance to live a vibrant life.

What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

Grief & Loss
"You may associate grief with the death of a loved one, but any loss can cause grief, including the loss of a relationship, your health, your job, or a cherished dream. After a significant loss, you may experience all kinds of difficult and surprising emotions, such as shock, anger, and guilt. Sometimes it may feel like the sadness will never let up.
While these emotions can feel very painful, accepting them as part of the grieving process and allowing yourself to feel what you feel is necessary for healing. As you deal with your loss, remember that there is no order or timetable for grief. Everyone grieves differently, but there are healthy ways to cope and heal from the pain."

Mindfulness is being in the present moment, without judgment and with awareness. Mindful awareness helps you to access both your internal and external strengths and resources to most effectively live your life no matter what arises.
